The five ways to split an expense

Equally is the default because it is what most bills need. The remainder, when an amount does not divide cleanly, goes one minor unit at a time to the first members — so the split always adds up to the total, exactly.

Exact amounts when you know who had what. The running total shows what is still unassigned and the Apply bar stays disabled until it reconciles.

Percentages when the shape is fixed but the bill changes — rent split 40/35/25.

Shares for weights: two people in one room count as two shares.

Itemized for a receipt. Assign each line to whoever ordered it; tax and service split in proportion to each person's items rather than equally.

You can change method at any time — the split is recalculated, and the change is kept in the expense's edit history.
